Luke's Kindergarten Program

Luke's first Kindergarten program! He looked so cute up there in his little ABC shirt and mouse ears on! His part in the program was "Animals come in many colors" and he did it so well :)

Not the greatest quality picture...but here is all the Kindergarteners in their cute little shirts

This is Luke with his teacher Mrs. Balasis

This is Luke's artwork that was on display!

Finally, a Daddy's boy!!!

Ok, so let's be realistic...kids love their moms. Who can blame them? Nourishment, Nurturing, TLC, and Beauty...what's not to love? So the fact that our little guy, Gavin, actually pays Daddy some attention, while a huge deal in my life, is of course most probably just a little tender mercy from Heavenly Father after two kids who didn't know I existed for the first year or so of their lives.

The past couple of weeks, Gavin has truly begun to blossom in his personality and communication skills. He points at what he wants, babbles while he points, and expects that all around him should understand exactly what he wants. He is walking like a champ and absolutely feels that he should be included in every activity, game, or other endeavor in which Luke, Emma, Sara, and I are involved. He is at once a little pill, yet the cutest dang 1 yr old you could imagine (unless of course you have your own 1 yr old and then we'll just have to agree to disagree).

But, I digress. My point in this post is that he has a special place in his heart for Daddy and whenever I come into his view, he gives me a welcome like I have been gone for 6 months and he thought of nothing else while I was gone. He immediately breaks into the biggest grin and launches into a chorus of 'da da's' that literally makes my heart melt. In fact, because of it, I renounce all long held resentments for those long months of laboring in obscurity and derision from the other two. Cue the cathartic, "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh."

We thought you might enjoy another of Gavin's latest tricks...peek a boo. Yes, I know, it's extremely original. But before you dismiss it, take a look at this fun little video.

We love you guys!!!

Who should have won...you decide

Yesterday Matt and I ran in a 5K. I was so excited because I was ahead of Matt most of the race (which NEVER happens), and then in the last 200 yards he pulled ahead (actually FLEW by me) and finished 10 seconds before me!!! That stinker! My time was 25:44 and Matt's was 25:34. There were about 2000 runners. I placed 458th or 114th in women's division or 19th in my age division. Matt came in 448th place or 336th for men or 37th for his age division. It was a nice cool day and was a fun run, it would have been funner if I beat Matt :) (is funner a word???)

Emma's New Do...

Last night I went to get Luke's hair trimmed and Emma begged to get hers cut...so here she is! She wanted it short like mommy's! I had them cut it to her shoulders and she told them it wasn't short enough...she knew what she wanted!

New Skill...Riding a bike without training wheels!!!

We had such an exciting day yesterday! Luke and Emma BOTH learned how to ride their bikes without training wheels!!!!! It was so exciting! We took a family bike ride to the park...(I was secretly planning on working on taking their training wheels off, but I didn't want to tell them that) so Matt had a wrench on his bike. We got there and took them off. We started with Luke, Matt was kind of holding him up and running along side of him. Soon I could see that he was holding on to him with just one hand. Then I saw that he was just touching his back with the one hand, then half way around the circle he had let go and was jogging along side of Luke! It was so exciting! I can't believe he caught on so quick on just the first time around the circle. I had been trying in the weeks leading up to it and he was not willing to do it...so all he needed was his dad! And all Emma needed was to see her brother get it and she couldn't be out done and she was already asking to take her training wheels off by the time Luke made it all the way around. She needed a little more help and had a few more spills in the grass, but she was determined, and sure enough she was on her own! They are so excited.

Gavin turns 1 Year Old!!!!

I can't believe how fast a year can go! My little baby is now 1 year old! We had the Lopez family over with us for dinner and cake to celebrate. And at age 1 here is all the mischief that Gavin is into...now that he is a big one year old, he has 2 molars coming in! Poor kid has been in pain. He now has 10 teeth! He took about 5 steps this week and is getting more and more daring. I'm sure by my next blog I will be telling you he is running all over the house. He is quite the climber now. Every time I turn around he is climbing on top of our little kids table, or on a chair, or on the stool in the bathroom trying to get to the sink. He loves to destroy books :( He tore a page in the hymn book at church. He tore the introduction our of Luke's scriptures, he tore 2 pages out of my friends book I was borrowing (which is now my book and I will have to buy her a new book). Yes he is a handful, but at the same time he is SOOOOOOOOOO darn cute! He now gives "5", and will even put your hand out for you so he can slap it. He is so funny because when we are walking into the grocery store or something he will wave to the people we pass on the way in. He really knows how to make people smile, even if they are complete strangers!
