It's Great to be 8 - Baptism Preview

Tonight we went with Luke to the Stake Baptism Preview. He was so excited that he had a "meeting" to go to. It's usually Matt or me that are off to another "meeting", so he thought he was big stuff. He said "what if one of my friends calls and wants me to play and I have to say sorry I have a meeting!" He was so cute. It is SO hard to believe that he is going to be old enough to be baptized this year! CRAZY! Where does the time go? This was the cutest and most entertaining baptism preview. The kids were soooo excited and they were saying the funniest things. My friend and I were wishing we had a video camera there to video all the innocent, cute comments. Here's a few that I remember...

At one point the Stake Primary President asked why we need to be baptized and one little boy raised his hand and started with this story about how if we don't get baptized then we won't have the spirit and we need the spirit to keep us safe...one time his mom was at the church and she was getting ready to leave. The spirit told her to stay...so we are all thinking this is a sweet story, but then he goes on.....BUT she ignored the spirit and then she got in a car accident! His story went on and on! It was pretty funny. The the Primary President says "Oh that is a horrible story!" And under her breath she says, "I don't know why I let that one go on!"

Then she asked what are some sins that we need to repent of....here are a couple of replies
  • Tackling our mom

  • Hitting our brother and then smashing his face in the driveway
The best was when she told them that if they memorized Mosiah 18:10 and John 3:5 then when she came around for ward conferences then she would bring them a candy bar. ALL the hands went up and they asked: When are you going to be at my ward? What time? What size candy bar? Chocolate? King size? And they went on and on wanting to know all the details :) I love this age!
I am so excited for Luke to be baptized. He has really grown up the last little while. He is so helpful at home, he talks so mature, if he does something wrong, or gets mad at me, he will come up to me shortly after and apologize! I love him so much and am so thankful to be his mom!

2nd Grade Holiday Party....

Luke was lucky enough to get to attend his class party, Emma didn't get the chance because we were headed to Utah the day of hers. (Sorry Emma...but we had enough parties in Utah and Idaho :) I always love to go in and help with the kid's parties, they are all just so excited and I love to see them interact with their friends and teacher. Mrs. Lipsit has to be the greatest teacher ever! Luke's class had a wonderful party!

Charlotte's Web

Luke's school class went to the play "Charlotte's Web" and I got to go along as a chaperon. It was a little bit eye opening to me....Luke is growing up and he is too cool...he wouldn't sit next to me on the bus or at the play!!!!!!! Talk about a dagger to the heart. There was a little girl in his class that clung to me the WHOLE time and helped to lessen the blow. She held my hand everywhere we went and told me over and over that she wished I was her mom. I didn't find out until after that Luke really did want to sit with me, not on the bus, but at the play. He was SO bugged that little Lauren kept hanging on me and told me he really did want to sit with me but Lauren was stealing me. :) I think he just felt bad that he dogged me.

It was such a cute play and the kids got a kick out of it. Next time I will make sure Lauren and I don't make Luke jealous :)

Here's Luke NOT sitting with me

Luke AGAIN NOT sitting with me :(

First day of school 2009!

Well here we go! The first day of school was great. Emma loved it and was so excited to just get started. Luke wasn't that nervous because it was his same teacher and pretty much the same class. The only worry was Gavin. He saw the kids with their backpacks and immediately got his out and wore it the WHOLE day! After we dropped off the kids he wanted to know where his class was. I took him to the gym and told him that was his "class". He bought it and went in with his backpack :)

Emma came home from school a little put out that she didn't LEARN anything and had no homework :) I hope she is always this eager to learn!

Luke's School Christmas Party!!!

Today was Luke's Christmas party at school and it was WONDERFUL! They had 6 different stations: paper snow globe pictures, Christmas card making, they frosted an ice cream cone and decorated it like a little tree, they made magnets with their pictures in it, they made handprint santa's, and they signed the back of these ADORABLE reindeer t-shirts that are made from their handprint and foot print! Too cute! Then I brought my chimes and they played a couple of Christmas songs on them. They even had pizza! Talk about a great party!

Things got a little MeSsY!

Ms. Bealls is the reading teacher

Mrs. Lipsit gave each child a little goody bag and in it she had made each one of them this cute little train put together with different candy! How sweet! This is Luke and Jurnie.

What a field trip!

Remember when you were young and you would hear the people you thought were old saying things like "When I was young we had to walk to school bare foot, up a hill both ways..." Well I find myself saying those kinds of things...for starters when I was little we didn't have field trips like this!!!!! Today Luke's first grade class (actually all the first grade classes) went to Epcot for a field trip. Matt went with him and they had a great time! Thank goodness my friend had her camera there because I had the camera with me!

Sharks Last Game!!!

Luke had a great last game of the season...he even scored a goal!!! His coach, Coach Bobby was great and the team really got along well! Part of me hates to see the season end...but not the part of me that wants FREE Saturdays for a while :) Amy Lopez took these cute pictures of the boys!

Classic Elementary Thanksgiving Party...

Last night was Luke's 1st Grade Thanksgiving Program and it was adorable! His class got to dress like football players and cheerleaders (ok not very Thanksgivingish...now I'm thinking it was more of a FALL program :) Luke's part was: "You don't need a team to play...you can play football in your own yard with family and friends". The kids were so wound up before the program started...here are some of the pictures.

Luke and his buddy Dalton

They also had some of their artwork displayed

Then today I got to go help with his Thanksgiving party. It was the classic elementary school party with the pilgrim hats and vests. VERY CUTE! They made Indian corn pins, turkey necklaces, turkey cookies, thankful placemats, played bingo, and the big hit was the Happy Meals they each got! What a fun day!
