The Rose Report: Triathlon

1 year ago today was the first time I attempted a sprint triathlon....since then I have been hooked! This past year my friends and I have done 3 sprint triathlons and 1 relay triathlon....well today we were back at the Women's Triathlon that started it all! It was so nice to go and know what to expect instead of being so worried about everything. That's not to say I wasn't nervous...I was VERY nervous, but this time we knew a little bit more what we were doing. It rained all day yesterday and we were worried about the rain because we didn't want to crash on our bikes. This morning looked like we might have dry roads...BUT then as we entered into the lake suddenly the rain started! NO!!!!! It didn't really affect us in the swim portion of the race but it was a little nerve wracking on the bike. There were quite a few sharp turns and I was careful to slow way down for each of them. Let me tell you I have crashed on my bike and it is not fun, especially because my feet are clipped into the bike so when you do crash it's not like you can just jump right up....it's more like I lay there STUCK! So thank goodness no falls today even with all the rain that was coming down during our ride. It was funny because the whole bike ride there were 2 women that I would pass and then they would pass me. It even continued on the run portion...I would pass them and then they would pass me! In fact one of them was running along side of me and she said "You know you are my nemesis!" It was pretty funny. Then the last 100 yards or so after we come out of the woods and the finish line is in view all three of us starting sprinting. OK sprinting might be a strong word, it was as much sprinting you can do at the end of swimming 1/2 mile, biking 12 miles and running 2.7 miles....one of the girls beat me and my nemesis came in behind me! :)

Matt was so great to bring the kids out to see me despite the rotten weather. Luke and Emma made me a poster that said "Goo Mom" and Emma wanted to make one that said "Run Mom Run" :)

It was a great race with my great friends! Thanks Amy, Beckie, Andrea, Marie, Tracy, and Rachel for a fun and memorable day!

I ended up coming in 5th in my age division, which had about 19 competitors. Here's my times:

Swim - 0:12:20.813, transition time - 0:01:18.833, bike time - 0:36:39.225, transition time - 0:00:44.329, run time - 0:24:33.201, TOTAL TIME 1:17:35.603. So 1 hour and 17 minutes...

Well our team did pretty well...we came in 6th out of 15 teams. Our total time was 1:26:25.....my swim time was 9:03......Marie's bike time was 37:36......and Matt's run time was 37:42.

Then we all jumped on a shuttle to the finish line....Gavin was being so funny and leaning on Kennedy the whole ride.

Emma wanted to run too so Matt grabbed her and they both ran through the finish line together! CUTE!
