We started a GARDEN!!!!

We had a very fun Family Home Evening tonight! We started our garden! We planted cucumbers, green onions, carrots, lettuce, and beans! We've been wanting to do it for a while and Saturday Matt tore out some ugly bushes that we had along the back wall and today I went to Lowe's and got the Black Kow and tonight the family went to work. I was very impressed with Luke on Saturday. He stayed out and helped Matt tear out the bushes and bag all the clippings. He was quite the hard worker. Tonight the kids tried to help but mostly got in the way :) But it was good for them to be out there to help a little because it got them excited and I know Matt will have them out there weeding and working on it. Matt hurried home from work and started right away so we would have as much sunlight as possible. As you can see from the pictures we ran out of sunlight and the last few seeds were planted in the dark. Fun, fun, fun...I can't wait to see how our little family garden does :) I love the feel of summer when you are out in the yard and the kids are running around and getting dirty and you don't have to worry about getting them to bed in a hurry so they can get up for school. Saturday was so nice, I cleaned the house all day and did the things I have been neglecting for so long, and Matt worked out in the yard all day. I think the new paint job on the house has really motivated us to keep things looking nice. Then we barbecued hamburgers on the grill on Saturday and had "corn on the hog" as Luke called it :) Awe the joys of summer!

Do you guys have an awesomely long growing season? I'm imagining you do.
This looks like so much fun! But I'm still a freako about getting the kids to bed on time even in the summer -- I guess because it's just like any other time of year for us, what with no kids in school and all.....but no kid is up past 8:00 in our house (usually not even past 7:15!). I'm just done with kids by that time of night. Especially since they've been up since 6 freaking 30 in the morning! :)
Glad you guys had a great night.

Hi Sara,
The garden sounds awesome! I love a garden except for the weeds. Too bad there must be opposition in all things (ha ha)! Your house looks so pretty! Sure wish we could visit you! We miss you so much. I had to laugh when I read your comment on my blog about your kids acting up when company comes because every other time (except for FHE), my kids totally act up and show off and then DJ and I are left completely mortified and threatening them "if you ever do that again." You know the routine! Morgan and Jordyn are the masters at it! I am glad to know that other people's kids do the same thing although I'm not sure yours could top mine!

Emma is so cute. She says funny things and she wears pretty dresses. That's all.
Hi Luke. I love Emma and Luke.

Hey, I got a bunch of cucumbers from our co-op a couple of weeks ago and it made me think of when you (Sara) grew your own and kept eating them with vinegar(?)! I was going to try it and chickened out because I wasn't sure if that was really how you ate them! I was also dreaming about those cute and tasty cucumber sandwhich things that Angie Ave used to bring to the parties! Yum!
Good job on your garden! We are going to attempt to do some square foot gardening next year. Some of our friends are having great luck with it!
Well, we love you! Have a great week! The Rieman's
